This is an original braided red wool hat cord for the Civil War Union artillery. Excellent surplus condition with strings still holding tassels from manufacturer. Bright color. Great for the early CW Hardee hats.

This is an original CW surplus red hat cord for the artilleryman's Hardee or Slouch hat. Still has all its tassels and bright color. Twine over tassel cords still there. So likely was a surplus item sold later by Bannerman's. Very Nice!

#4796 - Civil War Infantry tasseled Hat Cord  
A faded blue Civil War period hat cord used on Hardee hats of the Union infantryman. Due to wear, this was likely issued and actually used for it has a thread-reinforcing repair along the large side hat loop. The tassels are in great shape. Such hat cords were not much saved after the Civil War and thus are a bit hard to find these days.

#4795 - Civil War Veterans Corps Hat Cord  
Civil War Period Hat cord used on Hardee hats of infantry & artillery as well as the slouch hats of cavalrymen to denote their branch of service. This light gray indicated assignment to the Veterans Corps in which injured and debilitated soldiers still could serve in non-combatant roles during the course of the Civil War. This was likely issued and actually used for it has a thread-reinforcing repair along the large side hat loop. The tassels are in great shape. Such hat cords were not much saved after the Civil War and thus are a bit hard to find these days.
