#8399 - Sixth plate Tintype Union Troop with musket at ready This is a 1/6-th plate tintype of a Union Private in a frock coat, posed with his musket. It is a tintype copy of a prior tintype. This was often done when more photos were later needed. A photographer photographed the original, including its brass mat. Then, more copies could be made. Often done when soldier was killed and unable to pose again; or simply later wanted more pictures to give away after war... No ID known. No case. Mat "image" around edges is part of picture now.
