#7667 - January 1861 New York Herald War Brewing
This is an original copy of the New York Herald newspaper from January 30th of 1861. The nation was in an uproar as southern states seceeded in rapid order that month. Louisianna left Union on the 26th. Rejoicing in New Orleans still! Debates in congress. Ships and Forts under siege and changing hands. All very interesting articles concerning flury of anxiety & confusion as Union crumbled prior to actual military assault on Fort Sumter in April. This paper is also loaded with ads & local news. It is eight pages. It had been bound into a book but has since been split back-up into individual issues. Thus, the left margin is rough where it was stitched & glued. The left edges have been split where pages come together. Very small tears have been joined with a clear archival cellulose tape. This is good to read or to later frame. One page is 22 1/2" by 15 1/2".
