#5558 - 1/9-th Plate Union Tintype in Cool folding case
This is a 1/9-th sized plate tintype of a bearded Union Soldier from Civil War. His coat has soldier tabs and a high collar, so likely a New Yorker. But I do not have any ID on soldier. There are very faint, minor abrasions to tin over the cheeks under the eyes, almost making him look as if he is grieving. But I think it is not mystical but rather someone brushing off dust from image in past and leaving faint linear streaks. His eyes are non-the-less more directed and piercing than seen in most CW period images. Clarity good and contrast very good. Images comes in original glass and brass mats. It's housed in a leather "book-like" case that folds open. The center area could actually house another tin against the back of the first. These would have been good to carry both the picture of a husband and a wife together inside. Case is in great shape.
