#5392 - Battered US Belt Plate from Augusta, GA
This is a battered and partly broken US Belt plate from the Augusta, GA. area. It has a curl over of the plate on the "U" edge, as well as a lot of missing rim along the "S" side. Besides that, it has an upward cupping or curl to the plate, as if it were run over by a heavy wheel. But no cracks in center, with the "U" and "S" still being nicely preserved. The two arrowhooks and the belt hook are all still present. But there is lead loss at back. Photos show all this well. It is a neat item for those who like relics that were lost in real warfare. The damage makes it "feel" quite historic compared to a perfect plate that got home safely with a soldier. Who knows what happened to this battered plate's owner!
