#5240 - Gnarled Brass Union Cavalry Spur
This standard brass Union spur was found along the route of the General Sheridan’s march out of Scottsville, Virginia toward Columbia, Virginia, and later around Richmond to the Battle at Five Forks, one of the last engagements of the Civil War. What a shame to lose one's life at the end of four long years of struggles! It it looks as if a truly hungry m,onster of war took this spur into its jaws! Did it take the rider as well??? This is a Union "gutterback" Calvary spur. It is bent and missing one side. Part of iron rowel is still present. Approx. 5.25" long. Nice medium green patina. See photos.
