#4819 - Three Tintypes of the Day Brothers one uniformed
Three identified tintypes in fancy Civil War period mount cards of two brothers from Ohio, Hiram Day and Samuel Day. Two of these show young Samuel, one as a civilian and the other in Union infantry frock coat. Notations indicate that the civilian image shows him "at 13" prior to Civil War. He was "born on 3/1/1847" and died Jan.2, 1875 (aged 28 years). The father of Mary Addi Day Freeman. The other tintype shows "Uncle Hiram Day" (Pearl's father) Ink backmark on rear of card indicates C. Rees of Georgetown, Ohio to be the photographer. Based upon birth dates and databank comparisons, a soldier named Samuel Day likely served in the 175th Ohio in 1864. No other family information known. Sold as a set of three tintypes.
