#4392 - Nose & Sabot of a fired 3 Inch Hotchkiss This is a nice looking fired 3" Hotchkiss shell. There is no fuze adaptor in nose, so one can look down into the empty charge chamber where matrix, balls and powder once resided. Now, fully empty & inert. The lead sabot (collar) shows rifling marks of the cannon from which it was fired in battle. The base cup is missing. Has an overall stippled pitting to iron. Not flaking or spalling. A nice sturdy desk weight or shelf relic. Site of recovery is unknown.
