#4361 - Confederate Artillery Coat Button
This is a Confederate "Block A" coat button for a rebel gunner. Has a deep brown patina with slight roughness from ground action. But not flaking or spalling apart. However, it's original tin backpiece has largely rusted away, leaving the backside open without a shank. Consequently, one can see the inside of the face piece from behind. This is overall very solid but has a slight bend to face. Site is sadly unknown. (These backless buttons can be "filled" or professionally restored with sand/epoxy and a replaced shank if you wish, but I prefer to leave them as found.) 23 millimeters. How many Artillery buttons are left to find out there???
