#4352 - Blown Hotchkiss Nose Section: Cumberland Gap
This is the nose section of a flame-grooved Hotchkiss shell recovered in the Cumberland Gap area of the Kentucky- Virginia-Tennessee Borders area. The tip of this shell blew away upon exploding, allowing us to now look down into the empty contours of the charge chamber. This is a heavy, attractive shell, having been cleaned & preserved. It would be a great desk item that could be used as a neat pen or pencil holder due to its open top chamber effect. No fuze. No sabot or base cup. No powder remains. It is an empty shell.
