#4125 - 1/9th Tintype Union soldier with string bowtie
A Union private sits for a 1/9th plate tintype portrait in his frock coiat, wearing a string bowtie. Buttons are gold highlighted. Cheeks accented slightly pink. Comes with original mats, glass and leatherette half case. The focus (clarity) is great but contrast is ever-so-slightly light. There is a 10 x 2 millimeter area of emulsion loss near his right arm due to rust to tin plate from moisture. (Probably stored in moist attic or basement years back) But this is isolated, for the rest of tin plate and photographic emulsion are fine. Thus, the face, tie, chest and background of image are all well-set & solid. The rusted area could be "over-painted" and then sealed, but I left it "as is" for the next owner to choose. No soldier ID.
