#4088 - Sixth Plate of a stern bearded trooper
Because it was taken so closely to feature the sitter's portrait, this 1/6th plate tintype of a Union trooper has a rather "immediate and vivid" character to it. He seems either very determined or very stern. Has a graying beard, gold-accented buttons and pink daubs to his cheeks. Piping on his high collar appears light by not colored-in. Good clarity yet a bit light on the contrast. Emulsion has a thin linear scratch across forehead and right upper eyelid. (Not offensive) Sadly we have no soldier ID. A nice "close up" study of a war-hardened Union soldier. Comes in a leatherette case with some cover loss (see picture) and new tape along spine between both of its halves.
