#3472 - Model 1840 US marked NCO Sword CW useage
This is the standard sword carried by NCO's during the American Civil War. It has a faint "US" marking on one side of ricasso, but date is worn away. One can see the faint edge of the Ames maker's scroll mark on the other side of the ricasso, but no words remain to verify that. On the insert point of blade intact grip is a rack number "34." Also, there is a set of inspector's initials "j.F." stamped into the brass knuckle guard. The 32" blade is tight in the grip; gunmetal colored; and fullered out to the tip. No scabbard. A very nice representative example of the Union Model 1840 NCO Sword. Sadly, the shipping of swords has gone up because US Mail and UPS get very challenged on anything heavy or over 30" now.
