#2887 - 1/9th Plate Tintype of Union Private Alfred Phipps.
This 1/9th plate tintype comes in a pretty thermoplastic Daguerreotype case patented in 1856/57 by Littleton, Parson & Co. It shows a moustachioed Alfred Phipps in a casual sitting pose wearing a frock coat and Union vest, with buttons gold accented and pants lightly-blue in tint. The brass mat has maker's marks on edges. Phipps name is written in ink inside case under photo. Hinges sturdy with very small edge chips to case. Focus good with slightly dark contrast. A nice looking image. There are several Alfred Phipps in the CW directory: 3 men from Maryland and one from Indiana.
