#17041 - Field Modified Union crossed Cannon insignia This is a neat field-modified Union crossed cannon hat insignia with its rear loops still intact. The brass "25" for the regiment was not part of original manufacturing process. The numbers were crudely mounted with brass wires and solder out in the field. Troops were adding numbers, medals, stripes and patches all the time to standard issue equipment. This is such a relic. Dark brown-black patina. About 3 1/4" across. One of a kind!
