#16944 - Big Quarter Plate Tin Francis Becket 5 th CT. This is a larger sized "quarter plate" tintype of Francis Becket, a Union private in Company F of the 5 th Connecticut regiment. Nice standing view in frock coat and wearing his kepi. His buttons were highlighted gold by the original photographer at the time. Tag on back of half case identifies him. Clarity good but contrast minimally dark. Small spot in background area next to is head in not flaking. Faint liquid type splash on emulsion surface over legs. (Better not to try wipe it away) Nice original brass mats in the half case. Large image of identified Union soldier.
