#15956 - Beautiful US marked Leather Saddle bag This is a very nice, original Union leather saddle bag marked "US" on top flap. Leather is fairly supple without cracking. It has all three closure straps and buckles for top flap. The long leather shoulder strap is intact on one side. (Gone on the other where a mouse once nipped the edge/ see photos) The buckles and grommets are consistent with Civil War era. But possible it could be later, such as Indian Wars. About 13" by 12 1/2". Not too many of these survived in such great shape. Used to carry mail, papers or gear. Would look great on your cavalry rig display.
