#15381 - Melted and battered crucifix
This is a bronze Orthodox Christian crucifix recovered in a 58 th New York Regiment camp in Stafford County Virginia. This was a camp with many Polish & Slavic heritage soldiers. Thus, the Orthodox branch. This was discovered buried with a stash of sutler's discarded goods. It is scarred, battered and bent. Looks like something from The Curse of Oak Island! No loop or designs. A very cool relic of soldiers' faith in holy protection during war. About 7/8 inch at longest. Unclear if was cast or hand-carved by soldier.
