#15372 - Silver Crucifix dug 58 New York Camp
This is a silver Orthodox Christian crucifix recovered in a 58 th New York Regiment camp in Stafford County Virginia. This was a camp with many Polish & Slavic heritage soldiers. Thus, the Orthodox branch. This was discovered buried with a stash of sutler's discarded goods. It has no loop which might be reason discarded. Has rear silver hallmark. Some minor ripples to metal from being buried & dug. A very cool relic of soldiers' faith in holy protection during war. Most were brass or bronze, so this a little better quality cross. About 1 and 1/4" high.
