#14978 - Carbine Sling Buckle for Cavalryman gone West
This is a CW period brass buckle and batwing for the Union cavalryman's leather carbine sling. In fact, a piece of belt leather still is attached by grommets to the rear of the batwing tip. It has a black-brown patina to brass. No maker's markings. Both tongues present on bar. Recovered out West in Fort Bayard, New Mexico vicinity. Likely was brought with a cavalry unit sent West during or just after Civil War. It comes in a free Riker Box for safe & easy future display.
