#14946 - Surgeons Hand Foot Cutting Metacarpal Saw
This is an original Civil War era "metacarpal saw" as carried by operating field surgeons. It's size and serrated, fine-chewing blade was perfect for cutting the long, thin metacarpal bones and phalanxes (digits) in hands and feet. This has a nice blade with a few minor peppered spots, but no deep corrosion. The checkered wood grip is typical of CW era prior to advent of wet steam sterilization in Victorian tymes. Marked E.M. Hessier. About 9 3/8" long. (Do not allow rambunctious children to play or run through house with this!)
