#14942 - Ripping serrated Heys Saw to expose Brain
This is a CW era Hey's Saw with two sided blade. Once the skull bone was removed, the serrated teeth could rip through the tough, fibrous dura mater covering over the human brain. This was often used to drain traumatic collections of blood. Has the checkered wood grip used before advent of moist steam sterilizing in Victorian times (when entire instrument had to be metal). No maker's markings. Nice metal. About 6 3/4" long.
