#1417 - Tintype of dapper soldier
This is a nice 1/6th plate tintype in full leatherette case of a dapper looking Union soldier. At first I thought he was an officer with shoulder knots and a pistol cartridge box, but the more I look (and in light of the oval US plate), I guess it's metal shoulder scales that the photographer highlighted in gilt, and a standard cap box. Clarity (focus) is very good but not perfect as often occurred with full body (distance) shots. The contrast is a medium dark. Soldier is not ID'd. (Images here were "lightened" using Photoshop to show image better. Actual contrast is darker.)
