#13900 - Carbine Sling Batwing Tip Fort Churchill, NEV 1860s
This is the brass "batwing" tip of a leather cross-shoulder carbine strap for a cavalryman. It has two little pieces at one nail hole that make it fully intact. There are no makers' markings. It was dug near Fort Churchill, Nevada in the 1990s with landowner's permission. This Fort was built in 1860 to protect settlers from Indians. The Native Americans beat the Federals in the First Pyramid Lake War there, but then the Union returned with many more troops. This comes in a free Riker Box for safe display in future. I did not epoxy the tiny fragments back onto it.... but all pieces are there.
