#14778 - 1862 Patriotic Copper Token Staudingers Broadway NY
This is a roughly quarter-sized copper patriotic Union token issed for Staudinger's business on Broadway in New York City in 1862. These were popular give-aways during the copper coinage shortage during the Civil War. Copper coin tokens were prohibited in 1864 by the Federal government which feared unregulated private coinage domination. In Fine condition with minor dings.
